Connecting to the Internet 106 Getting Started Guide The Modem Timeout field determines how long KPPP will wait for a con- nection. Longer times may be needed if your ISP has a slow system, but this also delays retries if you're having problems connecting. The Modem tab lets you interact directly with the modem to troubleshoot problems with your connection. (See Figure 58.) FIGURE 58.  The Modem tab lets you test your modem to resolve low-level communications problems. The PPP tab defines additional options for your PPP connection. Options include: pppd daemon timeout: How many seconds will the pppd program wait before expecting a connection to be established. Increase this time if your connection takes longer to establish because of your phone system or ISP server. Dock into Panel on Connect: Minimize the KPPP application to a small window on your KDE Panel after a connection is established. Automatic Redial on Disconnect: Redial automatically if the connection is dropped for any reason. This is helpful for unattended connections. Show Clock on Caption: Display the total connection time on the Panel when the KPPP application is minimized. This is useful for tracking your time when you have cost or time limits on your ISP account.
